Eye Pixels | Stop Motion

Eye Pixels is a stop motion project that explored new ways to animate 'trash' in this case dolls' eyes.

I had to go through exactly 179 doll heads to find 49 matching eyes. I get the doll heads from a ‘Friday market’ in Cairo, these are kind of like scrap markets, sellers collect various things that were thrown away and sell them for very cheap prices, if it doesn’t sell then it goes next to garbage collectors who would then recycle it. I can find around 60-70 doll heads in just one day in a small Friday market in Cairo, it’s an astonishing amount of dolls that get thrown away. I am now a doll eye expert, these come in 3 different sizes; small, medium and large. And within these three sizes there are two different sizes for the iris itself.
I saw this animated in my head one day and imagined it as an artwork/sign for my studio. You can "type" anything you want by closing and opening the lids. I even created a real life interactive version of this project (The H-EYE Machine) that you can check here.
