This painting was developed from first building a layered background. In some areas I exposed the previous layers of paint from sanding away the top layers, this got interesting with the variety of viscosities I painted with. 

After building the ground for a week or so, I began painting my object overtop. I chose to paint a carabiner, it's an object not typically seen as visually beautiful or impactful. It is purely an object for utility, and I made that connection with my approach to displaying the work. I hung the canvas by a carabiner and string, this acted as an extension of the work.
