Sapiens
A 3 part animated series based on the book “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari. This is the story of the human race and the historical processes that have made us what we are today.
The goal of this project is to introduce this books content to a younger audience, that may not be familiar with the history of humankind. The solution is short animations made for social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.
But unlike many Youtube series that discuss topics such as this, the information is delivered via characters and the stories they experience. Every episode presents a question, a story about recurring characters that answers the question, and an end sequence that explains how this story influences humans to this day.
Characters
To be able to tell stories that span thousands of years there needed to be a single character to represent all Homo sapiens. And when it comes to groups, the other sapiens look almost identical with slight changes to hair and robe color.
Animation
Several video-boards were made for each episode. One of the biggest challenges of this series was to accurately represent the main ideas of the text, but also to create a unique interpretation of the text in a fun and interesting way.
