The Sun Voyager is an ode to the Sunand and includes the promise of undeveloped land, hope, search, progress and freedom.

Jón Gunnar had become very ill when work began on the expansion and construction of Sólfar and he died in April 1989. Anyone who does not know better than that the work was created during this period and imagines that it is related to Jón Gunnar's reflections on death - that Sólfarið move souls into the realm of death but that is completely wrong. The idea is beautiful in itself but it is not in accordance with Jón Gunnar's ideology. The sunset is a dream boat, about the sun and involves hope and light.
