For example the present version of google icons have been a bad choice.​​​​​​​

So by seeing this clearly can identify the the biggest mistake made by the creators of the new icon, the clarity of recognizability of the icons is lost completely. Like when we compare with old one, the ones are way better than the present even though the don't have unity between them but it give the user clarity of what which app your using. 

So when I researched on there design system I got to know that they have been using 4 colors in all of there icons. And the colors are blue, yellow, red & green. They have used 3 PRIMARY COLORS and one secondary color which is GREEN, this is done intentionally to say that they don't follow rules.

When went on surveying with my friends asking about opinion on the new icons, and the answer was NO, that was obvious answer which I was expecting from them. The new icons lost visual clarity, appeal, recognizability. Which no person would loved to use this kind of icon which make them hard to use in their busy life.

So I decided to keep my design to be:

I looked into many icon design style which have been in the trend & which a simple look and has clarity in there looks, I collected some of it created a MOODBOARD out of it,

After this I did a little bit of brainstorming for the icon designs, and made a note of ideas for different icons om how I can design them. I wanted my design to be simple and consistence mainly so I was focused on that point while the process of selecting my icons. 'Recognition over recall' that's the main point on what I going go for in my design. I did a MINDMAP of all the points which I made note of while brainstorming.

Main changes which I have made here is:

Play Store - I changed to shopping bag because play store you get to download all kind additional apps you need to your phone, So that make it more recognizable than just triangle play icon.  

Drive - I changed the icon to a cloud shape because drive is an app where you store your photos, videos, documents, etc in them. The technical word is cloud based software for the drive so why not give the icon the same thing so that is easily recognized.  

Documents - I kind of feel bored of seeing the documents icon has a pages or sheets, so why not make look like file folder which you see in the offices, that makes you realistic and can be easily recognized by everyone.

Google Meet - The present meet icon has a video camera shape & that makes it look outdated I feel, because no one uses that kind of cameras nowadays & doesn't make any sense for what it does, So I created shape where 2 people are giving an handshake.

I CHOOSE LINE ART FOR MY ICON'S & INCLUDE ALL THE 4 COLORS OF THE GOOGLE WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING IT FROM YEARS. 

I illustrated using some simple simple geometric shape & and try to make it make simple and neat. Then later while design for the style of the icon set, at first I thought of doing NEUMORPHIC style because this style is being trending at present. 

Then later when I showed it to my mentor and friends, the first thing they asked me was IS IT ADAPTABLE ?. Where in later I got to know it is not because neumorphic style is totally done with shadows and highlights which wont be same in everyone's devises. But they liked the icon designs and gradient effect. So later I went further tried some more styles. 

So I went with the DEAPTH EFFECT for the icons which as a inner bevel feel to it & added a stroke of the 4 colors. When I did a survey for this the first thing they said was it looks more like STICKER than a icon set. But they likes the depth effect. 

So I went with final design style and survey I did for this gave a big THUMBS UP.

With the same DEPTH EFFECT I created a mockup of the GOOGLE WEBSEARCH page.

With this project I got know about icon designs, how important it is for designer to make the design which recognizable, simple which make the user comfortable using it. I got to learn a lot about GOOGLE in particular the evolution of there design and all. Overall it was great experience doing this project.
