For this design, I was task with the project of creating a set of collateral materials for a conference or convention. This includes a program, table tent and interactive PDF registration form.
The conference I chose was How Design Live. Each year, nearly 3,000 designers, marketers, and other creative professionals come to HOW Design Live to look for products and services that will help them solve design and marketing challenges, develop their skills, advance their careers and find inspiration to create amazing work.
One of the main elements that I focused on for this project was what defines a designer? With professionals and at-home designers attending from across the globe, I chose a hybrid between warm and cool colors to define my audience. In my opinion, when I think about designers, I imagine warm organic colors to represent the ever-changing field of graphic design. As for the cool colors, I believe the professional aspect associated with designers fits the cool colors well.
In addition to the color theme of this project, I also included circles that move around throughout the different pages to further drive home the idea that design is a transformative field with new possibility everywhere.
Issue: When designing the table-tent for this project, I knew I wanted to incorporate an image of the key-note speaker in order to draw attention to his event. But due to my design, I needed to include the image of the key-note speaker without jeopardizing the color theme of my table-tent.
Solution: What I came up with to combat this issue was to add a gradient shader by first graying out the key-note speaker in Photoshop. Then apply a gradient with the same colors as the ones that I used in my project onto the image in order to create a coherent set for this project.
Overall, this project taught me a lot about creating coherent works along with understanding what the client needs in order to create a successful project.
