Short background story about this project
I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to go to Taiwan as an exchange student for one semester, back in 2019. I did a lot of videos, photos and I was absolutely meshmerized by the country. When I went there at first I felt pressure because of the language barrier. I couldn't understand anything but as the time passed by, I slowly started to accept the feeling. After all these messy feelings, I thought I brought my culture into another culture. I am a hungarian with a hungarian background, experiences, friends, family but for a short time I was in
Taiwan and everything happened with me quite fast and mysterious. I made new friends there, and I slowly started to understand
this culture. It somehow became my second home since I went with the flow. I went to the Night Markets, I ate taiwanese food, started to learn some chinese.

What is this?
I decided to use my taken photos in Taiwan and make a book about it. I choose 5 photos and I placed 5 figures in each photo to make illustrations. I choose red color to make this book because Taiwan's main color is also red. I wanted to express that even though we came from different cultural backgrounds, we are still the same. I used a lot of traditional hungarian signs, embroidery and brands (DRK, Tisza cipő, Matyó, Kalocsai) and put them into a taiwanese environment like a mixture. The illustrations are detailed but if you pay attention, you can easily find the signs.
After making the illustrations, I decided to put them up into a traditional Chinese style accordion book shape. I bought a book in Taiwan and it was a similar style, it told a story about Buddha. That contained just a little amount of calligraphy and the main focus was on the illustrations. These illustrations functioned like a story, and mine is also based on my story in Taiwan. I bought some supplies for making the book and I bound it by myself.
