Aims.
Creating a portable and retro-style water boiling product for the ageing hipster who likes to drink tea and hang out with friends
Introduction.
For aging hipster who struggles to find the retro-style product collection for boiling water to hang out with their friends. Therefore, the design is a kettle that is based on the needs of ageing hipsters and retro look with innovative features that tend to be portable which are designed for people who often hang out at coffee shops or retro restaurants.
Benchmarking.
The market provides a variety of tools, devices, and styles that are limitless. However, hipsters like to hang out with their friends at the local coffee shop, so they just prefer to purchase some items with ageing hipster or retro elements.
This area provides the opportunity market which is not targeted at gorgeous appearances and fragile materials but focuses on the products that respond to the style between tradition and fashion. Also, the elements of toughness and robust will be readily appropriate for the users with the characteristics of outdoor activities.
Ideation & Prototyping.
Some initial ideation sketches about a few different types of products. Based on this work, I explored a range of ideas and it culminated in the bamboo-like kettle. Also, producing some desk models helped the designer decide on the best way to progress a design.
Bamboo Metaphor.
The appearance of the kettle is a metaphor for bamboo. For Asians, they like to drink a cup of tea while watching bamboo. Because tea and bamboo represent enjoying time for pleasure and living life at a slow tempo.
Also, the kettle body and lid adopted real bamboo chips which can feel the natural and smooth texture of the bamboo.
The Function of Lid.
The unexpected feature is the lid of the kettle which can be picked up directly and twisted to separate the lid and the filter. Therefore, users can not only heat the water but also brew tea. In addition, the lid has the function of storing tea bags and filtering tea leaves.

Portability.
350ml capacity, portable and compact size, perfect for travel or business trips. The attractive thing about this kettle which is not limited by time and place. The heating element is equipped in the kettle, the user can charge the kettle with the USB connection to a power bank which can heat the water whenever and wherever possible.
Touch Display.
One-button switch. Touch the '' start '' button to activate the kettle, and the '' + '' and '' - '' touch buttons can adjust the exact temperature. It also can display the real-time temperature.
