Chase Pipes's profile

Scotland’s Second Bronze-Age Discovery

Tennessee resident Chase Pipes is the co-owner and operator of the Smoky Mountain Relic Room in Sevierville. At his retail and wholesale store, he sells meteorites, fossils, minerals, and other historical artifacts he acquired from around the world. Chase Pipes collects these items from metal detectorists, private collections, trade shows, and dig sites.

Recently, a metal detectorist in Scotland unearthed several items from the Bronze Age, including a 3,000-year-old sword and jewelry. The discovery was made roughly 22 miles south of Edinburgh by Mariusz Stepein.

Shortly after, archaeologists spent 22 days digging in the field, where they found a much wider range of artifacts. These included a horse harness, rings, chariot axle caps, and buckles. All of the items discovered in the field are displayed at the National Museums Collection Centre in Edinburgh.

The discovery of these Bronze Age items is nationally significant for Scotland. The items were the country’s second Bronze Age discovery.
