How To Be Happy at the Galway Film Fleadh

The Film created by the participants of the Filmbase/Staffordshire University MSc Digital Feature Film Production Course is premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh this weekend. There has been a lot of well deserved buzz surrounding this film so much so that it's initial screening sold out in less than 24 hours. A second screening was added and that also sold out. This is virtually unheard of and is a testament to the level of dedication and hard work brought to the project by all involved.
“How To Be Happy” is a comedy focusing on relationships. It tells the story of Cormac, played by Brian Gleeson, (“The Stag”, “Standby”) as a marriage councilor who starts sleeping with his clients, and Flor, played by Gemma-Leah Devereux (“Stitches”, “Casualty”) as a private detective hired to investigate his antics.
The cast also includes Stephen Mullan (“Out of Here”), Laura Way (“Anton”, “Opus K”), Brian Fortune (“Game of Thrones”, “Savage”), Carrie Crowley “(Earthbound”, “Rásaí na Gaillimhe”), Rebekah Wainwright (“The Tudors”), Lesley Conroy (“Mattie”, “Life's a Breeze”), Steve Gunn (“Titanic: Blood and Steel”), Geraldine McAlinden (“Portrait of a Zombie”) and Lesa Thruman ("Quirke").
The script for the film was written by acclaimed Irish filmmaker Conor Horgan who previously wrote and directed the IFTA and Zebbie award-winning “100 Mornings”. The script was developed in collaboration with the students on the course, who devised story scenarios for the film and work shopped scenes with actors.
The film shot for three weeks in Dublin in March and the final post-production work is being completed here at EGG Post Production facility. Nik Panteris graded the feature and the final Online was done by Alan Sullivan. Alan Fitzgerald, Managing Director of Filmbase has said, "We are delighted with the support and attention from everyone involved with the project at Egg".
Best of luck to all the cast and crew for the screening. We at EGG are sure it will be a huge success.
