Divine Wind, Divine Paradise
“Divine Wind, Divine Paradise” Publication is based on Canto 33 from Dante Alighieri poem Paradiso and Japanese Suicide bombers stories and letters to their families during the World War II. Japanese Suicide Bombers were called “Kamikaze” meaning “divine wind” or “spirit wind”, officially Tokubetsu Kōgekitai. They were a part of the Japanese Special Attack Units of military aviators who initiated suicide attacks for the Empire of Japan against Allied naval vessels in the closing stages of the Pacific campaign of World War II, designed to destroy warships more effectively than possible with conventional air attacks. “Paradiso” is the third and final part of Dante’s Divine Comedy, following the Inferno and the Purgatorio. It is an allegory telling of Dante’s journey through Heaven, guided by Beatrice, who symbolises theology.

The book is split into two part, each part is focusing on either Canto 33 or Kamikaze. The book is read from left to right due to the Japanese style of reading, Traditionally, Japanese is written in a format called tategaki , which is inspired by the traditional Chinese system. In this format, the characters are written in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered from right
to left.
