CONTEMPORARY MEDIA PRACTICE
ARTS UNIVERSITY PLYMOUTH, UK

UNITED KINGDOM 2016-2017

PEDRO VALIENTE Program Leader BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Practice, AUP

Development of the new program BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Practice (later named BA Digital Media) at Arts University Plymouth (former Plymouth College of Art) in the United Kingdom from March 2016 to March 2017.

"This new cutting-edge BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Practice degree is a hands-on program focusing on audiovisual creativity and production, ranging from film, television and new media to the performing and visual arts. This program primes a new generation of contemporary media artists to meet the growing international need for innovative audiovisual content.

Combining digital and broadcast media with the practical training necessary to harness new and emerging types of technology, this unique degree will equip you with the practical and creative skills necessary to create innovative, multi-platform content that is suitable for use in everything from advertising and television broadcasting to feature film or even transmedia projects.

This contemporary program will encourage you to create for a global audience from day one. At first, you’ll engage with the local community, industry and environment of Britain’s Ocean City, before positioning your work within an international context. This diverse, multicultural focus will prepare you to carve out a successful and sustainable career, in an industry where a smartphone alone can enable your ideas to reach a global audience." --PEDRO VALIENTE

Tasks cover shaping the new degree, teaching as principal lecturer, and managing the program (staff, spaces, resources) as well as research, scholarship and practice. Initiatives include:
