Dyeing
A sneak peek into the world of dyeing, patterns, sample pieces and hands full of colour.
I explored various dyeing techniques both in natural and synthetic form, first sampling them and then developing larger pieces.
Arashi - It is a Japanese Dying technique where a piece of cloth is wound around a pipe and pushed together with thread. The folds in the cloth allow the dye to reach certain portions to create a pattern.
Shibori - Shibori is a Japanese resist-dyeing technique where the cloth is folded and a pattern is stitched onto it. The stitch marks resist certain areas of the cloth whereas the rest is dyed.
Clamp Dyeing - a resist dyeing technique where wood or cardboard pieces are held onto the cloth with clamps while being dipped into dye. In this technique one can develop a number of patterns.
