Intelligent Exceptions

Intelligent exceptions was an interaction design lab, the first phase of which, was indulging in detailed research based on a traditional Indian object or practice. We chose the lota (pot). After having aquired all sorts of information on the chosen topic, we narrowed it down to its basic essence, in terms of indian culture, people and emotions.The second phase of the course was the execution of interactive objects reflective of this basic essence of the lota.
 
 
 
PROCESS
 
 
 
 
OBJECT 1: MEDITATIVE 
form: shirodhara
inspiration: ayurveda
essence: purity, concentration, focus
object interaction: Shirodhara is a lota with a small hole at its bottom to let water pour out drop by drop. Each drop of water      
falls into a container below it, illuminating it each time. An amplified sound of the drop can be heard.
 
 
 
 
OBJECT 2: THE THOUGHT PROCESSOR
form: kamandala
inspiration: sage's life
essence: hindu symbol of acetism
object interaction: when tilted and brought close to the mouth, it records a maximum of 4 words at a time (simplicity), and replays it twice(reflection), as soon as the lota is returned to its original position.
 
 
 
OBJECT 3: THE ICE BREAKER
form: kalash
inspiration: traditional customs, marriage
essence: auspicious, symbol of bondage & togetherness
object interaction: two lotas based on touch sensors, interact with each other when touched by two people, through interactions like light, sound & vibration.
