The job was to create a gig poster for a band of our choice with a genre of our choice in mind. The main audience that would listen to the type of music I decided to portray would be people aged 18-30 who might frequent the beach or prefer the beach/surfer lifestyle; laid back and chill. Having grown up in Southern California, this kind of music really takes me back to some pretty happy memories.

When first coming up with the idea for this poster, I really liked the idea of having a business man as the main focus. I went through the idea of him sitting on the beach in a suit or have him wearing sunglasses and the reflection being the beach. I started to go along with an idea where the suit was ripped in a few places, revealing board shorts. After receiving some much needed advice, I decided against this and went more for a turtle lounging on the beach, looking out onto a sunset.

I worked hard to make sure that I was making something that really brought the chill vibes across, but in an aesthetic fashion. I met with a supervisor to make sure I was on the right track. Advice on the style I was using and composition critique helped make the poster more interesting and pop more.

Through symbolism with a turtle, whose life is slow and, for the most part, care free, the poster carries the message of a chill life, enjoyed through the feelings of sinking your feet in warm sand, watching the sun stoop below the horizon while a palm tree sways not far off.
