After working as a self-employed electrical contractor for 17 years, Loren Wesley Vankirk founded Vankirk Electric in 1994 and has since transformed the company into a multi-million dollar enterprise with operations throughout the US. When he is not working to ensure the smooth operation of the company, Loren Wesley Vankirk enjoys watching foreign films.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has been awarding the Best International Feature Film, previously known as Best Foreign Language Film, since 1947. At the 92nd Oscars recognizing the best films of 2019, Parasite became the first-ever film to win both the Best International Feature Film and Best Picture. Naturally, it was also the first-ever foreign language film to win Best Picture. It was the second foreign language film to be nominated for Best Picture.

The film, co-written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, involves members of a South Korean family pretending to be qualified professionals to secure employment with a wealthy family. Bong also won Best Original Screenplay and Best Director. The film previously won the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or and had grossed more than $166 million worldwide prior to the Oscars. It beat out films like The Irishman, Joker, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for the Best Picture Oscar.
