Designed for offices where space is at a premium, Vari is a convertible whiteboard, pin up board, and meeting table. In vertical mode, Vari offers a full sized whiteboard on one side and pin up board on the other. When it’s time to collaborate, Vari can transform into a conference table big enough for the whole team to gather around.

While studying in Prague I had the great opportunity to learn under Václav Mlynář of Studio deFORM. This project started out as a focus on applying unconventional joinery in furniture. A great initial inspiration was the work of Israeli designer Gilli Kuchik.

A lot of initial exploration revolved around creating joints from rubber. I explored what the material itself could do before seeing how I could apply it in the context of furniture.

My exploration led me to look at and analyze room dividers. I wanted to design something a bit more productivity driven. This led me down a rabbit hole of researching small offices, seeing what they lacked, and designing for that.

Several prototypes and hours of banging my head against the wall led me to transition from using the “rubber” type joint (impractical for what I wanted to do) and adopting a design focused around a scissor leg mechanism.
