Larimar Mining in the Dominican Republic

The Quest for Larimar, for a fistfull of Pesos.
In the coastal province of Barahona in the Dominican Republic mostly illegal workers from Haiti dig the mountains for the blue stone Larimar. They get paid when they find stones. They run into debt for food and shelter. Work in the small, poorly built shafts is dangerous and as they collapse regularly. I visited the sites, together with the miners worked in the dark, sweated like hell, did interviews and took pictures.
