I originally built this website in Flash, as my Javascript skills were lacking. However, as I have spent more time with Javascript (and in particular jQuery) at my day job, I have taken on converting this website from Flash to Javascript. The home page is the only element of the site that is still in Flash.

This was a direct port of the Flash interface to Javascript. However, the benefit is easier maintenance on the backend for the photographer. She uploads images to her blog, tags them with one of her categories (children, maternity, etc.), and those pictures immediately show up in each individual gallery. Two birds, one stone.

The blog is what I am most proud of. Not because of the design, but because of its impact on the photographer’s search ranking. Basically, she adds the location in a custom field in WordPress, and tags the blog with her categories. Outside of that, she writes what she wants to write. I did some customization on the display to make them appear more naturally written in H2 tags. This – along with a properly formatted sitemap.xml – has taken her from page 4 to page 1 in Google, and at one point number one for particular search terms. Basically, the more she blogs, the higher she appears. And she doesn’t need to know anything about SEO.
