The National Library of Myth & Mystery

Final term design project for my second year at the University of Brighton. Through investigation into themes of interest (stories, myth, cryptography) that related to our site of Alfriston - a small village in East Sussex in the UK - we had to develop a brief and a design for a project of national significance - creating the largest building in the village. My research led to the development of an idea for a library of mythical and rare items - books, manuscripts, maps, original film reels, forgotten technologies (Betamax, Laserdisc etc.) and of particular note, old pulp fiction and comic books. The project was designed to be an archive for this collection for decades if not centuries to come, while reflecting the themes investigated in the project - secrecy, myth, cryptography, speculative fiction, alternate histories and multiple explanations.

A Table of Myths & Codes

Brief was to design an object or fragment of space that had the qualities being investigated earlier on in the project - mine being codes, myths, stories and alternate histories. This table was designed to have multiple reasons or explanations for every facet of its design. A table made to drive a conspiracy theorist insane, if you will.
