THE BOX BARCELONA
Colombian Extasy

As she's a Colombiana primordially, Mayra Noriega never let her domestic roots for what they were. Instead, she always run a second business next to their co-owned fashion boutique 'Le Studio Barcelona'. It's a tropical Colombian cocktailbar, called 'The Box Barcelona', and she does it together with her boyfriend. 'The Box Barcelona' is a full Colombian rapture. What's so impressive and unique about the bar, is the big colorful wall of jars behind the bar, which radiates their own-flavored gins. It's a unique way of doing, using handcrafted techniques for originally flavored drinks. For example, they have jars with the flavors Bubblegum, Strawberry, Smurf and Rose... and those are only a few of the innumerable gin flavors they make.
Request: Botanical Drawings

In April 2019, it was time for some changes, according to Mayra. She wanted to design a whole new look, feel and taste of the actual menu of 'The Box Barcelona'. Therefore, she asked me to illustrate a number of given elements, that are in sync with the botanical, Colombian and handcrafted concept of 'the Box Barcelona', like for example a jar full of flavors... Down below I will expose my outcome and the result of this exciting job.

More about the employer

Mayra Noriega is a young inspiring entrepreneur, based in Barcelona. I worked for her in the period of December, 2016 til July, 2017, when I did my internship at 'Le Studio Barcelona', which nowadays turned a successful fashion boutique in the city centre. After I finished my internship by Le Studio Barcelona, a warm contact kept between me and Mayra, so she regularly asks me for more creative input, which I'm very grateful for.
First stages of the process - From a first pencil drawing, to the first graphic outlines. Most importantly, the shape of the jar needs to change into a glass without a grip. Also, the content of the jar needs to become more minimalistic, without vegetables, only herbs, spices and tropical fruits.
The process of the color plan - We chose to work with the color card above, with the colors Mid Blue, Fruity Yellow, Warm Pink and Soft Beige (left to right).
Final - In the last phase, I was asked to add more of the pink content to the jar and make some last color changes, as clearly visible in the piece of orange, which looks more fresh and fruity in the last versions. Next to that, Mayra wanted the pink 'fluid' to look more natural, so I partly added an extra warm colour layer on top of the pink parts.
