2019 49ers Season Branding

In 2019, we took a modern approach to the 49ers brand classic, historic brand. We continued the Faithful Then, Faithful Now campaign but leaned into the Faithful Now aspect of the brand to make the brand feel as accessible and inclusive to new fans as it does for the people who have been Faithful for years. This was especially important for the success that this years team experienced heading to the Super Bowl.
I created a unique graphic for every game with a matchup specific slogan on each. Some slogans came from the game theme such as Military Appreciation, some for a holiday like our Cardinals game on Halloween, and others for the location of the game such as the Hollywood sign in LA. The elements used on these were carried throughout the other graphics created for game day as well as you will see below.
Aaron Llavore and AJ Murray helped me turn each of these still graphics into a motion piece as well. I have included a few of my favorite samples of these motion graphics here:
The Game Day graphics relied much more heavily on the motion designs done by Aaron Llavore but below are some examples of the still graphics I put together for some of the games that Aaron then took and added music, video, and motion. This allowed us to create an energy for our fans to get excited for the game that day. You can see some of the same elements, visuals, and fonts used in the match up graphics that would be posted the day before.
After a few of our memorable wins this season, I created graphics with a phrase and photos that helped tell the story of the victory. Each of these matched the theme of the game day and matchup graphics as well.
I began building these undefeated record graphics to be posted after each win. By the end of the season, our record was still so impressive that I continued the series without updated scores, record, and an impactful photo from each game. Each design was in the style of the game theme as well.
We were able to have a photoshoot with 60+ players this summer. When we announced the 53-Man Roster, I wanted fans to get to see some of the personality and helmet off photos of each of the guys that made the team. We had photos of 51 or the 53 guys so I did IG carousel highlighting our new roster.
A few miscellaneous graphics I made throughout the season for our social platforms playing off of organic, fun moments surrounding our team.
I wanted to create a visual that almost stopped time for the magical moment that Greenlaw made a goal line stand against Seattle to lead the 49ers to an at-home playoff run and win our division. I did this by overflowing text from the tweet copy onto the image itself, adding a subtle motion of glimmer and slow panning in, as well as focusing the lighting on the hit.
I stitched together a burst of images from our photographer Meg Williams to create this composition demonstrating the emotion in Jeff Wilson Jr.'s first touchdown celebration.
