In my home town of Alliston, we had a restaurant called the “Blue Frog Cafe.” The restaurant was run by Melissa, and student volunteers earned hours here to build a sanctuary for youth after school. For this project, the restaurant would be revived with the name “Lantern Fly,” an insect with an upwards turned nose. It was once believed that a lantern fly’s bite could instantly kill people, animals and even trees. An illustrative approach was taken with this project that resembles scientific text book drawings of the insect and a colour palette inspired by the myths of death surrounding the Lantern Fly.
