Amphibious Hybrid - Aythya

Industrial Design
Aythya
This design was made with small design group. Project designers included me (Janne), Roope Kolu, Tuulia Miettinen, Jaap van der Voort and Tiemen Stelwagen. Two last mentioned designers were from Netherlands.

Aythya Amphibious Hybrid is a futuristic concept vehicle. This intelligent and innovative car has adjustable tires, the ability to analyze particular terrain and change the shape of the tire and ground clearance automatically as required. The tires adapts to all terrains, such as water, land and snow. When the vehicle is running on normal roads, such as tarmac and gravel, the tires remain usual. When it is running in the snow or mud, the tires opens a bit and acquires more grip. Finally, the flaps are completely opened when running in water, acting as a propeller to give the pace. The intelligent all terrain assistant does this all automatically.

This vehicle has advanced and powerful batteries which powers electric engines that are enclosed inside every wheel. This concept was designed for students and tourists in Kuopio, Finland. Where they could rent the car for free time use. Aythya concept is fun to use and can be used in various surroundings, whatever the conditions.
The name comes from Finnish mythology, where the world is created from the Aythya´s egg (Aythya = duck). So our vision was, that this concept creates a whole new world of cars. So, that is where the name comes from :)
