Scallywags was an early program I directed for Petco.  This program was designed to be mass market.  It was very forward for Petco at the time, addressing different play patterns and consumer insights.  Each character had a little story about how they came to be a Scallywag.  The humor, both in their details and their stories opened up the possibilities for more "off-color" humor in later collections.
