Finding BIlly the Kid was a porject covering a 3-year period and includes collage work of imagery gathered while traveling in New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. This campaign was inspired by my video work at the University of Michigan with choreographer Bill DeYoung in a dance production entitled "Looking for Billy." I continued to collect images of the Old West for some time and to combine them with images of children, religious saints, and the sort of androgynous characters that had crowded the work I did for Mr. DeYoung in creating the rear projection for his dances.
NOTE: This series of collages was inspired by a collaboration with choreographer Bill DeYoung and the University of Michigan dancers for whom I produced the rear-projected video shown in the video excerpt above. The complete video of the performance, in 3 parts, can e found on my YouTube channel. (This is Part 1.) Shortly after closing the curtain on the dance performance I took a road trip to New Mexicao, Colorado, and Arizona continuing to work on the theme of Billy the Kid in the collage work shown here. The video appears on YouTube and an excerpt is presented below.
