The summer of 2019 was the first time I created something by myself in wood. I took a course at Capellagården on the island Öland. Before the course, I thought of wood as just a material, something that was only used to create a product. Now I understand how alive and complex wood is as a material and that no piece are the same, which also means that no product will be exactly the same as the other. As a tribute to Carl Malmsten, the timeless designer who founded Capellagården, I chose to make my own version of his stool "Visingsö" from 1953. I chose to call mine "Lilla Öland" and by using only hand tools the product has become an extension of myself and my learning process. Like Carl Malmsten's stool, mine is also made in pine, as it is a good first material to work with.
