The rate of child obesity is rapidly growing especially here in the United States. For my BFA thesis project, I created a campaign titled “Heartbeat” that promotes making healthier lifestyle choices in children. Looking at all the existing solutions and campaigns that address the issue, they either call kids out for being the way that they are, or they tell kids what to do. I wanted to create something that would help children make healthier choices on their own. Through my project, I created a card game. I created a series of illustrated characters that belong in the different food groups: fruits, veggies, meats/proteins, carbs/starches and sweets. These food groups are worth different amounts of points in the card game. Fruits + veggies being worth the most, sweets being worth the least.
