Icon set for The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation

Client: The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation (Hjärt-Lungfonden)
Year: 2019

Appelberg was approached by The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation to
design a set of icons for their new website. The purpose was for them to
be functional and direct in order to push for content on the site as well as
giving the overall design a familiar look and feel.

We started by searching visual metaphors for each icon in the donation
icon series. A few concept sketches were developed that involved a hand
and a heart; the hand symbolic for the act of giving and the heart a
metaphor for donation as an act of love. The heart also connects to the
Foundations logo that also uses the heart as it’s symbol.

We continued by developing an icon design based on the infographic
created for the Foundations booklets published in 2018. A graphical
language that can be defined as simplified and direct but also friendly and
welcoming. The same color scheme was also used in order to connect to
the foundations graphic identity.

With our client's and user's needs in mind we delivered 25 icons
that visualizes everything from the Foundations core values, it’s
involvement in research and, perhaps most important of all, the donation
activity.
