This project was a trade-show booth design for the Building Industry Association Hawaii show in January 2020. Our booth showcased our Plus Interiors cabinet business and our California Closets Hawaii franchise.
Our organization had not participated in a trade show like this in some time. The opportunity was identified due to a usual dip in sales at the beginning of the year. We believed that a contributing factor to the early slow-down was due to our competition's consistent participation in this show. So we wanted to jump in and see if we could mix things up.

I was tasked with designing the booth layout. We have two brands, one for custom cabinets and another for closets, so the product offering to showcase had to be coordinated between the brands in a single booth space.
Working in scale was critical to understanding the flow of the booth. So I took the time to build a 12th scale model in foam-core to understand the space better. It worked well in discussing the layout with the team.
The foam model allowed me to transition quickly into CAD to begin designing the cabinetry and fixtures.
I spent a long time curating finishes and hardware from our palette to showcase a full breadth of our offering at the show. I also met with our sales team to workshop the different palette selections and get their feedback.
Because our company is also a franchise of California Closets, we utilized their proprietary design software to develop that side of the booth. However, I had to approximate the design with other CAD programs, in order to fully visualize the booth whole.
Because we were working with a specific vendor for the countertops and backsplash, I was able to accurately specify and render the exact material and finish of the real product.
Because the company has a history in printing and framing, we were able to add some fun decorative elements that were sure to be unique to us.
Our booth design utilized temporary walls that we framed up in order to install the cabinetry onto something solid. Great in theory, but a bit cumbersome in practice. We learned a lot of lessons during the execution of this project.
