A redesign of a popular coffee shop's patio located near the Whistler Mountain gondola in Whistler, BC, Canada.
The concept for this project is 'Summer'. Summer activities, colours associated with summer, summer planting and plant growth.
The project was limited to both a very small budget and lifespan, June - September.
The design used palletts as a modular system. This was used to keep the cost down and allow for easy construction and deconstruction.
The design is seperate, by colour and useage, into three different zones influenced by important factors of summer life in Whistler; the mountains, parks and lakes.
During the course of the summer nature would heavily impact and change the site. On a daily basis, the sun shines through the semi opaque sun shades casting shadows of different colours and shapes throughout the day.
The new planting will grow and flourish into a visually strong element in the site. The paint applied to the palletts will also be affected by the summer rains.
Blue. This area represents the rivers and lakes in Whistler. It is also the bar area when customers can buy refreshments.
Green. This area represents the forests and parks in Whistler. Here customers can relax and unwind amongst local, native planting.
Orange. This area represents the mountain and bike trails. This area acts as a bike lock area.
