Brain-Controlled Technology Shows Promise

The CEO of Black Ice Advisers since 2016, Brent Fouch leads the investment fund in providing capital for publicly traded companies. Brent Fouch is also the founder and former CEO of Mind Solutions, Inc., which develops software that utilizes the brain’s own neural activity to control computers.

Mind-controlled technology is a promising tool with many applications, from helping computer users become more efficient to helping individuals who are paralyzed control their wheelchairs. The basic concept involves using a brain-computer interface to create a communication pathway between the user’s brain and an external device. For example, a wheelchair user might wear a special cap and undergo training that teaches him or her how to imagine using a certain part of the body or think about a mental command.

While there are limits to this type of technology, particularly the fact that the mental focus required to maintain control of a complex device can be exhausting, there are indications that more training makes it easier. A recent study at the University of Minnesota found that long-term practitioners of yoga and meditation can learn to control a computer with their minds more quickly than people without experience in these disciplines.
