About how we see pigs; as objects/commodities/profit, not as individuals.
Interesting facts about pigs:

''Pigs are smarter than 3 year old children, dogs + some primates. That means they 100% comprehend mistreatment + like us they feel fear, empathy, happiness, + many other emotions.
-
Pigs have excellent memories - they can also problem solve + learn symbols. They are one of the only animals that recognizes that a mirror is a reflection + not a window.
-
Domestic pigs can live up to 15-20 years old. But the majority of pigs in animal agriculture are killed at 6-8 MONTHS old.
-
A lot of people have the misconception that pigs are dirty - especially because they like to bathe in mud (they prefer water). Pigs actually do not have functional sweat glands so to cool down when it’s hot out they will bathe in mud. Not only does it keep them cool but it protects their skin from the sun. Sadly most pigs are forced to live in unclean conditions with no access to the outdoors. They live their lives out on concrete floors where they can not bathe, root in the dirt or even feel the sun on their skin.
-
Mother pigs called “breeding sows” are forced to have babies for 3-4 years. On most farms they are kept in gestation or farrowing crates where they can not even turn around or move to help their babies if they are in need. Pig moms form a strong bond with their babies + sing to them while they are nursing.
-
Something to remember is that the flesh of pigs known as bacon + other processed meats are a Group 1 Carcinogen - meaning there is scientific evidence to prove it causes cancer. It’s also linked to heart disease, high blood pressure + strokes. There are so many amazing vegan alternatives that are not only good for your health but kind to animals + the planet. ''

Interesting facts about pigeons:

- Pigeons are intelligent beings, one of 6 species - and the only non-mammals to recognize their reflection in the mirror.
- Despite the social perception of pigeons as dirty and disease-ridden, pigeons are very clean animals.
- Pigeons and humans live side by side for millennia. During the 1st and 2nd World War, pigeons saved thousands of human lives by transmitting relevant information. They can find their way to their nest from 2000km distance.
- Pigeons recognize faces, understand time and space, recognize all letters of the alphabet.
- Pigeons have excellent auditory abilities. They detect sounds at much lower frequencies than humans, can hear distant storms and volcanoes. They also have extraordinary vision, see the world in a kaleidoscope of colors, and are able to distinguish almost identical shades of color. Like hens and other birds, they have eyes on the side of their heads and nod their heads to stabilize vision and gain a deep perception.
- They are herbivores, their diet consists of seeds, fruits and various plants.
- They are social animals, mostly in a flock of 20-30 birds. Pigeons are monogamous and can live up to 20 years. Both males and females play an equal role in rearing young - They alternate with incubating eggs and both feeding young with 'pigeon's milk'. Baby pigeons are rarely seen, only when they are almost adults.
- Instead of nesting in trees, pigeons prefer to move their families to the safety of rocky cliffs, or if they are in an urban environment, from the outside of buildings.
- Nikola Tesla took care of the injured pigeons and fell in love with the white pigeon. Pablo Picasso also admired pigeons, often painting them, even calling his daughter Paloma - in Spanish 'dove'. Charles Darwin was engaged in the popular breeding of pigeons at the time, and in his 1868 book "Variation of Animals and Plants Under Domestication" he devoted 2 chapters on pigeons (dogs and cats share one chapter).
- Today, about 260 million pigeons inhabit almost every city in the world, living and interacting with humans perhaps more than any other animal on the planet. It may be because they are so common that people often forget that pigeons are amazing little creatures.
