Earlier in November 2019, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary has announced its partnership with BSA in rolling out the Auxiliary’s program for youth development. This development was a result of the memorandum of agreement signed by BSA and the Coast Guard Auxiliary which established BSA’s Sea Scout program as the official youth program of the Auxiliary. Through this initiative, the Auxiliary hopes to reach as many young boaters as possible and encourage them to consider future careers with the US Coast Guard.
This initiative was seen as beneficial to both the BSA and the Auxiliary. For BSA, partnering with the Auxiliary affords the Sea Scouts with the opportunity to benefit from the seamanship and vocational training offered by the US Coast Guard. Moreover, this partnership also offers the Sea Scouts a unique introduction to the US Coast Guard.
On the part of the Auxiliary, this collaboration, which designates Sea Scouts as the official youth program of the Auxiliary, is seen as the most important initiative the Auxiliary has undertaken in recent years.
