Leandro Leão's profile

VILANOVA ARTIGAS CENTENNIAL BOOK

For the centennial of Vilanova Artigas (1915-1985) – one of the most important Brazilian architects – the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (FAU USP) organized a critical seminar about its greatest professor. “As virtualidades do morar: Artigas e a metrópole” (The virtualities of living: Artigas and the metropolis) is the publication of the event of same name, which brings together texts written by the main researchers and critics on the master of the Escola Paulista (São Paulo’s Brutalist Architecture), such as Guilherme Wisnik, Hugo Segawa e Ruth Verde Zein, as well as photographs by Nelson Kon and Cristiano Mascaro. Seminar and book were organized by professors Leandro Medrano and Luiz Recamán.

The cover and the release poster of this publication makes use of two methods of printing, digital (in black) and mechanical movable types (in red), on high whiteness paper of 240 g/m, in Univers font (digital and metal types), in addition to wooden types for the title and subtitle.

Rationalizing technique and process: both the cover of the release poster resulted from a single process, using the same forme of movable types. Starting with almost similar digital printings, the process with the movable types gained in rationality by using the same type assembly and the same printing process to produce the cover and the poster.
* The publication has been selected for the 70th year commemorative exhibition of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo / 2018
