From the first appearance of man on Earth, Nature has undergone the invasive influence caused by the human need to satisfy primary and non-primary needs; the prolonged negative impact of humanity on nature over time makes it necessary to acquire awareness of the delicacy of our ecosystem and the irreversibility of the mechanisms that human life - intended in the sense of eating, drinking, sleeping - triggers.
The can inspires the Varia_Azione su AL13, designed to be a collector and interpreter of this object so versatile and precious that it can be released from its role as a container to acquire a playful and musical aspect.
Varia_Azione su AL13 consists of a table whose surface is designed to interpret the presence of a certain number of cans, whose positioning determines the triggering of a specific musical phrase. The work can be experienced simultaneously by multiple users who collectively act in order to create sound content, giving new purpose to an object that would otherwise have exhausted its function. The public investigating the work and reusing the object acquires new awareness of non-waste and reuse.
The installation is activated by positioning one or more cans on a table mapped by sensors and whose surface of 4 square meters has about 30 slots for the tin containers. The user investigates the work by choosing the position in which to place their can, then triggering a musical phrase and obtaining immediate luminous feedback. Varia_Azione su AL13 is polyphonic: the more cans are added on its surface the more sound events will be mixed together to compose catchy musical pieces that range from the naturalistic sound landscape to the most modern industrial sound.
In order to make the composition of the piece more intuitive, the table area is divided into four easily identifiable and recognizable macro sections: one rhythmic, one harmonic-melodic, one soundscape and one effects.
Once the musical experience is over, each user has the possibility of throwing the exhausted can into a special container located near the installation, in this way the cans can be reused by subsequent visitors reaching the ultimate goal of the work, i.e. awareness towards a conscious reuse of materials with a strong environmental impact.
