Oliver! The Musical - Marketing & Advertising

Client: College initiated project
Service: Marketing & Advertising
Brief: For this brief I had to create a number of promotional products for a local production of Oliver the musical. The designs had to represent the time in which the musical was first staged – 1960s. The deliverables required was a poster, two postcards, an invitation for opening night and an animated GIF to be displayed on the
theatre’s website.

My process: While researching 1960s graphic design styles I was intrigued by Alan Fletcher and the method he used within his photographs which resembled a threshold style edit and his use of quirky type. For my design I wanted to take iconic characters and quotes from the musical, using each character on the different deliverables. I chose to display Fagin, Oliver, Mr Bumble and The Artful Dodger
Photo process from original to final
I took photographs of myself wearing iconic hats and outfits for each character. I then took the photos into PS, liquefied certain features to enhance them and then used the threshold filter to create the final look.
To create the type for the designs I scanned in the alphabet and numbers into illustrator that I created using rubber stamps and ink.
Final Designs. (L-R) Poster, Postcards (x2), Invitation Front, Invitation Back
