Technical Illustration - Gameboy Color
Where would you see an advert for the brand new Gameboy Color? An Argos catalogue of course!
Client: College initiated project
Service: Technical Illustration

For this project I was tasked with creating a technical illustration which consists of four or more illustration techniques such as line drawings, exploded view, partly rendered and so on. The technical illustration then had to be displayed within context which appealed to a specific target market.

My process: I chose to create a fully rendered graphic of a Gameboy Color which contained line drawings, line weights, callouts & magnifiers, rendered sections, and gradient mesh. I then used these vector graphics and incorporated them within two designs. I created one to represent an advertisement poster for when the Gameboy was first released in the 90s, I think the use of bright neon colours helps achieve this look. The next design I created was to represent the Patent that was introduced to protect the design of the Gameboy.
Creating a fully rendered Gameboy
This was the process of creating the fully rendered Gameboy Color from start to finish. While creating it, I was struggling to visualise how it was going to look. I was still feeling this way with the 2nd last vector, it wasn't until I added in the highlights and shadows by using the Gradient Mesh tool that it finally started to look like the real thing. It's amazing what a little bit of shading can achieve to creating a more polished finish.
