Tomas Tranströmer was a Swedish poet (1931–2015). His poems captured the long Swedish winters, the rhythm of the seasons and the palpable, atmospheric beauty of nature. Tranströmer's work is also characterized by a sense of mystery and wonder underlying the routine of everyday life, a quality which often gives his poems a religious dimension.
The Haiku is a Japanese verse form. Traditionally the poems are written in Japanese on one row, consisting of 17 sound signs (onji). The Western haiku though, consists of three rows, with 17 syllables divided as 5-7-5. These poems are written in Swedish by Tranströmer, and translated to English by Robin Fulton — and are a part of a collection called Haikudikter by Göran Malmqvist & Robin Fulton.
I've created a piece of ambient music to bring the right mood while reading the poems.
The font used is Hannari Mincho, a Japanese font which I chose to celebrate the origin of the Haiku. The font looks unique in Western letters, reminding of typewriting.
I've used a Japanese type of book binding.
Each booklet contains a Soundcloud link to the music accompanying the poems.
