I love doing these kind of water simulations, growing up I would always play with sand by the beach.

For this project it really was like playing with a moat by the sand castle again. I went through thousands of simulations until I found the one that looks the best to me, lots of chaos but still orderly and visually pleasing to watch.

For some reason playing and experimenting with water was always interesting to me, I would make moats for the sea water to flow into and have the water interact with my sand castle in different ways.

Took me a few weeks to complete, and ideally if I had more time I would render this with higher samples. I might do a rerender, but in the meantime my hard drive has over 500gbs of water particle simulation data…
