Designing for Authenticity

How we designed from a place of authenticity leading to +401% mo/mo increase in sales

Client: Shannon Shape
“When we finished my website, I cried. Not only was it finally done, but it was EXACTLY, like exactly, how I wanted it. I couldn’t have done it without Emily. I honestly can not recommend her enough - in a sea of fakes, and people who are doing mediocre work as a side hustle, believe me when I say she is the real deal.”

The Client
Shannon is a celebrity fitness trainer and model who is most prestigiously recognized for competing in NBC’s The Titans and E! reality show Hollywood Cycle, and appearing in campaigns for Target, Nike, Adidas, Ford, Mercedes, Fabletics and more. With over 10 years of well-respected experience, she needed a website to match her level of professionalism.
Challenge
Create a distinguished and representative digital brand and online platform for an established celebrity fitness trainer and model in an over-saturated market.

Outcome
Understand Shannon. Reallly understand her. There’s a million fitness trainers in LA - question what makes Shannon different - why she has a line out the door of cult-clients. Don’t just create a cookie-cutter “fitness” website. Actually listen to her ideas, pain-points, dreams and long-term vision. Get to know her. Then, convert and convey those distinct personality traits into a tangible brand identity and website.

“I work better tactically, and in person, so once Emily realized that, she made time in her busy schedule to often meet with me and to work in person. She made it easy and comfortable and adapted to my individual and unique needs.”
— Shannon Decker
Problem
Before working together, Shannon had tirelessly tired to launch a website for FIVE years.  After working with a developer, side-hustler and trying it do it herself, she felt defeated and hopeless, not to mention, robbed of time and money from people that could not deliver.  Not having a functioning, well-articulated, easy-to-navigate website was a huge setback for her career because she was unable to move forward with selling her online products and programs.  She was also looking for a one-stop hub for all of her modeling collateral to live.  Shannon is constantly booked with clients, so while she had work coming in, she was missing out on the ability of letting her online business grow on auto-pilot, while she was in the field training clients.

“I can not properly express the frustration I experienced for over FIVE YEARS as I tried, and tried again, to get a website created and launched. Not having an online presence was really holding me back from being able to elevate to those next steps. ”
— Shannon Decker
Roadblock
Being a visionary, herself, Shannon often felt that designers did not understand her vision.  She felt frustrated because she had an idea yet it was never able to be properly executed.  There was a discrepancy from knowing exactly what she wanted, yet, not being able to execute it because she did not have the design skills.

“She would take random DMs, texts, photos of napkin sketches, fast phone calls and all other spastic methods of communication and magically turn them into my exact vision. I think that’s one of Emily’s strengths- she takes the time to truly get to know and connect to her clients, so she’s making THEIR website dreams come true, not HERS. ”

Turning Point
Enter Salt + Soul Collective stage left.  Shannon was a little hesitant at first due her scarring past experiences, but after seeing one of her client’s websites and hearing rave reviews, she wanted to give the website thing one last shot. After having a brief consultation call, she felt a fire lit in her that she did not feel in years.

“She immediately sparked a flame in me that I thought had been extinguished a long time ago. Her friendly demeanor might come across as “young or spacey” but I ASSURE you she is anything but.”
— Shannon Decker
The Resolution
From turning napkin doodles into interactive online platform, not only was Shannon’s dream site brought to life better than she envisioned, we continue to have an on-going active partnership as Shannon’s premier design resource for all her needs.  Going beyond just creating products, Shannon and Salt + Soul now work on strategic launches, emailing marketing and Instagram promotion. While she kills it training clients in the gym, she’s simultaneously successfully earning passive income from her online platform. Safe to say, trust was established.

“There is nothing generic about Emily’s work, she is a true creative who actually has the skill set to execute anyone’s needs and vision.”

Client Testimonial
I can not properly express the frustration I experienced for over FIVE YEARS as I tried, and tried again, to get a website created and launched. I had just moved to Los Angeles to grow my fitness business, and with an indoor cycling show about to premiere on E! I was in a hurry to get a website up in order to help fuel the fire that was being built.
Fast forward to 6 months ago, five years later, and believe it or not, no website still.
I have a thriving personal training business, but not having an online presence was really holding me back from being able to elevate to those next steps.  My friend and client recommended Emily, because she had just finished a beautiful website for her new nutrition consulting business. I was skeptical and disheartened but I took a phone call with Emily.
She immediately sparked a flame in me that I thought had been extinguished a long time ago. Her friendly demeanor might come across as "young or spacey" but I ASSURE you she is anything but. I have adapted (or at least tried to,) to her method of sending THEE most organized and detailed emails I have ever witnessed. I have a very hectic schedule, and those emails were like a soft pillow at the end of the day lol. She would take random DMs, texts, photos of napkin sketches, fast phone calls and all other spastic methods of communication and magically turn them into my exact vision. I think that's one of Emily's strengths- she takes the time to truly get to know and connect to her clients, so she's making THEIR website dreams come true, not HERS. There is nothing generic about Emily's work, she is a true creative who actually has the skill set to execute anyone's needs and vision.
I work better tactically, and in person, so once Emily realized that, she made time in her busy schedule to often meet with me and to work in person. She made it easy and comfortable and adapted to my individual and unique needs. After these sessions she would go back to her own life and I think she must have 6 secret elves living with her because she would get her "homework assignments" / next steps done so quickly and beautifully. Most the time was spent waiting on me and the work I had to do on my end.
When we finished my website, I cried. Not only was it finally done, but it was EXACTLY, like exactly, how I wanted it. I couldn't have done it without Emily. I honestly can not recommend her enough - in a sea of fakes, and people who are doing mediocre work as a side hustle, believe me when I say she is the real deal.
