Stop Telling Women to Smile

This performance art piece is based off of Tatyana Fazlalizadeh's street art project called Stop Telling Women To Smile. The performance piece confronts gender based street harassment and is meant to make women, especially college aged girls, feel empowered. For the performance, I printed posters with photos of myself and captions that signified and challenged common harassments. I then gathered with several other women from my college and together we took to the streets and taped the posters on light poles throughout the busy downtown area.
Several days after the performance, an article was posted to the town's online newspaper article, showcasing the posters and commenting on their message.
