is a personal project inspired by paleolithic art. Love of animals, science and prehistoric art come together in this fictional field notebook.
My aim is to create accurate illustrations that depict animal beauty while being faithful to science and disseminate paleontology among the public.
The spirit of paleolithic art is present not only aesthetically but also in the subject of the illustrations. Cave paintings and engravings dating back to 40000 BC - 7000 BC from France and northern Spain are my frame of reference.
Due to the subject matter there was a need for accurate information, so sketching and planning took tons of research in anatomy, behavior and scientific evidence.
All this work served to create a 20-page journal that would contain facts about animal life from the Paleolithic as if told by some explorer. I handpicked 10 of the most frequently depicted animals in paleolithic art from Western Europe and gave each one its own double-page.
Thanks to all the researchers and paleoartists whose work helped me shaped this project.
Also to the man who inspired this project.
