National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center is a museum located on Independence Mall just steps from the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Historic Philadelphia. The NCC is a state-of-the-art nonprofit and nonpartisan institution is devoted to expressing the ideals of the U.S. Constitution. This monumental structure by Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners Architects LLP was completed in 2003.

My role in this project was to illustrate the interior wayfinding system and signage using Adobe Illustrator for the architects. This included all the typography in the Grand Lobby: quotes by Daniel Webster and Theodore Roosevelt, the Wall of Donors, the Wall of Delegates, and the Wall of Trustees, all carved into the large limestone walls; dedications etched into large plates of glass and suspended from the limestone walls with stainless steel hardware to match the entry sign for the Information Booth; bronze plaques dedicated to each U.S. State that are tiled around the curved atrium on the second floor with each state's flag suspended over it; and the wayfinding signs which consisted of stainless steel bevel edged plaques with bead blasted background, sand blasted borders, and bordered with glass. Also included in the signage was the typography for the entrance to the Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach, the national hub for constitutional education.
