Christmas Stamps - An Post

An Post required a set of six Christmas stamps that captured the essence of this special time in a most innovative and eye-catching fashion. The designs needed to reflect modern Irish life, nature, community and spending time together during the Christmas season. Two of the designs needed to refer to the Christian tradition of Christmas. As miniature art, the designs also had to yield strong clarity in their composition in their scaled down form, and for the individual designs to work together as a collection.

The stamps feature depictions of various Christmas themes using paper craft illustrations that result in very distinctive finished imagery, in principal resembling a theatrical set in its construction. In total there were six stamp illustrations in paper-craft dioramas. The process in designing the stamps involved creating sketched scenes, pre-visualising these digitally, then cutting out the designs in coloured paper and positioning them into layered scenes similar to theatrical sets before lighting and photography were used to achieve the final effect.
