PROFESSOR LAWRENCE LANGHAM

Planes in Space Project
For this project students create an illusion of being in a three-dimensional space,
through photography, model building and digital image manipulation.
Each student uses their own photographs of New York City to form a visual narrative
in a series of panels intended to be viewed as the visitor walks through the space.
The purpose of this assignment is to develop the ability to use space as a design tool,
explore image scale, and discover how images can shape an environment.
Students study the relationships between positive and negative space in three
dimensions. In addition to making a scale model, they also learn to use an architect’s
scale and create accurate space documentation with floor plans and elevation
drawings for presentation.
