I use reclaimed wood to create three-dimensional constructions out of
salvaged materials.
The piece included in this exhibition is comprised of an array of wood types,
including cedar, poplar, pine and plywood. I have noticed that some of these
assemblages resemble architecture in the ways that the forms, voids, proportions
and materials interact.
Creating these sculptures involves careful consideration of the relationships of the
forms, as well as the voids between them. This process can be traced to design
principles that I first learned while studying at Pratt, and is combined with respect
for natural materials and a deep interest in sustainable practices.
