PS915 is located in a beautiful building in Downtown Brooklyn, which was built as a public school for boys in 1905. Not only is the facade stunning, adorned with ornaments typical of its time, but it boasts numerous statues of owls. Its location is also relevant, as it sits across from the Manhattan Bridge, connecting it both to Brooklyn and Manhattan. These are things we wanted reflected in the new logo; the strong connection to learning, and its physical connection to the immediate community.
The main logo has an owl icon that is derived from studying the owl statues on the building itself, crowned by the top of the Manhattan Bridge architecture. The 'crown' is thought of as a replaceable graphical device that can be switched up depending on the message needed. Below you can see my inspiration for the owl icon, including photos of the school building itself.
Visual reserach
Color variations of the logo
Variations of the main logo is necessary to accommodate for different situations. A grey variation assures good looks when printing at home on a black-and-white printer. Two variations on a negative option assures great functionality on dark backgrounds.
Department logos
The owl acts as a visual vehicle for sub-departments within the school community. Here are examples showing how the 'crown' can be adapted to various uses.

School associations
The School Administration, the Parent Association and the Friends of Middle School 915 all make announcements through various media. These logos, and combination-logos, were made for that use.
UI components
The school depends on its volunteers and donators, and these website buttons were made to make that part of school life fun and engaging.
