Moon Discovery
Spring 2010
For this project we were to find an artist and emulate their work for a "designer inspired calendar" for the year 2011. I chose designer, Laura Smith, for her fun and laid back themes, color choice, and use of art deco styled designs.

Digital Version

We were each given a month of the year, we then had to chose an event or important occurrence in that month and create a calendar page that shows that event. On January 7th, 1610 Galileo Galilei discovered the first and largest moons of Jupiter. These were the first satellites to be found orbiting anything other than the sun or Earth. Portrayed in my design is Jupiter, notable by the storm and it's rings, and the 4 original moons, Ganimedes, Europia, Io, and Calisto.
Screen printed - 4 color process. For the sake of time, my sanity, and registration issues the final shadowing on Jupiter and the moons was omitted. I made the colors more drastic in the printed version than in the digital version just to add some contrast.
