In 2018-19 I designed and manufactured a carbon fibre seat for the University of Sheffield Formula Student team, SFR.
A polyurethane foam seat insert was made to form the correct shape and driver position, which was scanned using a GOM structured light scanner provided by NAMRC. I created a model in SolidWorks, which I then manipulated to design a mould for the carbon fibre lay-up.
Once cured, the seat was post machined to match the CAD design, then further adjusted based on iterative driver feedback.
